Bishop Paprocki is both a Canon Lawyer and a Civil Lawyer, and conducted a symposium on exorcism for over a hundred bishops and priests at the November, 2010 USCCB conference in Baltimore
Hollywood periodically renews interest in demonic possession and exorcism with films like The Exorcist (1973), The Last Exorcism (2010), and The Rite (2011), this last based on a book by Matt Baglio entitled, The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist. Bishop Paprocki will separate fact from fiction and give us a realistic overview of an extraordinary phenomenon. He points out that, since possession and exorcism are rare people mistakenly think that’s the only activity of the Devil, and that, “if I’m not possessed, I don’t need to worry about the Devil.” It’s “quite the opposite,” he explains. “The ordinary work of the Devil is temptation and everybody has to face that every day.” And that is a serious matter for all of us – undoubtedly why Bishop Paprocki re-instituted the St. Michael the Archangel Prayer after Holy Mass in his diocese.
