We are very fortunate to have here in St. Louis a place of prayer with the resources to pull-off something like this – a Great Novena is a difficult thing to do, but the rewards in graces are... infinite.
In the time following the World War when it was becoming apparent that the second one would come, a Great Novena of Masses to the Immaculate Conception was begun in France, and has continued ever since. The prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary are no less needed today than they were during the rise of the Third Reich. Our freedom to participate in civil society is under attack while the Church herself lurches from crisis to crisis, and our political leaders seem more interested in power than in the Common Good. Each year since 2006, The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest has presented the Archdiocese of St. Louis with a Great Novena of the same kind, with guest sermonists at many of the Masses, and confessors available before and during the Masses. A partial indulgence for making a public novena before the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is specifically mentioned at no. 34 in The Enchiridion of Indulgences (this is the 1968 edition, but as best we can tell there is no substantial change in the fourth edition).
Several of these sermonists are known to Credo Members -- Bishop Rice spoke on fatherhood at the 2011 St. Joseph dinner. Fr. Harrison is Credo's Spiritual Adviser, and before he was assigned to be pastor at St. Angela Merici, Fr. Keller had served us in that role. Fr. Witt spoke at a 2006 Credo Forum. Fr. Price kindly hosted the 2011 Credo Day of Recollection at The Oratory of Saints Gregory and Augustine. During the Great Novena, you can hear them all speak at The Lamb's Feast.
If you don't have a Latin/English missal for the Classical Liturgy, the Fraternity of St. Peter apostolate in Sidney, Australia has one you can download here. It is meant to be printed on normal paper, double-sided, and folded into a booklet. There are links for Mass Propers in the schedule below -- you will need these to go along with the "common" or unchanging part in the missal. We have also provided the proper for the Commemoration of St. Sabbas.
