Real Men become Military Chaplains. Joseph Coffey climbs mountains, wins kayaking competitions, cheers every sports team in Philadelphia, rides fighter jets off of aircraft carriers, leads teams , and follows troops into combat. He also hears confessions and offers the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Lt. Cmdr. Fr. Joseph Coffey is a U.S. Navy Chaplain.
He spent years fleeing The Hound of Heaven down labyrinthine ways until, finally smitten to his knee at age 30, he entered St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia. Fr. Coffey was ordained in 1996, and asked his bishop, Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua, to release him for service as a Navy Chaplain.
The Cardinal told him to serve five years in a parish first. He did, and joined the Navy in 2001. In 2004, he was named Navy Chaplain of the Year by The Military Chaplain's Association, a high honor indeed. And Credo of the Catholic Laity is honored to have Fr. Coffey here to tell us about the Heroism and Holiness among Military Chaplains.
At the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 7750 Carondelet Ave in Clayton, Missouri. Sit-down dinner served at 6:00 with talk to follow. Members $25, non-members $30. Parking is free. Register for this Forum now!
