Archbishop Raymond Leo BurkeHis Eminence, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke will visit St. Francis de Sales Oratory on Tuesday, January 31st at 5 PM for a Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction. All the faithful of the Archdiocese are invited to attend.

Immediately following, there will be a reception in the church hall where his Eminence will receive receive all faithful who wish to greet him.  There will be hors d'oeuvres in the hall during the reception.

Cardinal Burke, then Archbishop of St. Louis, established St. Francis de Sales Oratory at the site of the historical parish on July 1st, 2005. This magnificent church is the ideal setting for the classical liturgy of the Roman Rite. Dedicated in 1908, St. Francis de Sales church is known as “the cathedral of South St. Louis” because of its scale, elegantly designed exterior and  300-foot spire. It is the only church in the St. Louis area of German Gothic architecture and is based on the design of a church in Germany. Practically all of the interior furnishings of the church were designed and crafted by German immigrants to America. In 1968, St. Francis de Sales was named one of the 62 “significant historic buildings and sites” in St. Louis by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. In 1978, the church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Come and experience a Solemn Exposition and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament with the full devotion due our Lord, expressed in chant, prayer and ceremony.

The oratory is located at Gravois and Ohio in south St. Louis City. You may find it easiest to park on Iowa Avenue behind the church. There is a parking lot on Iowa down the block past the gymnasium building. Directions may be found on the Oratory's website: scroll down to find the interactive map.

Cardinal Burke has been a great friend to Credo, speaking at one Forum and introducing speakers at others. We are very grateful for his kind attention while he was Archbishop of St. Louis and we hope many Credo members can take the time to be with him during his visit to the grand place of prayer he left us.

When Tom Leith spoke briefly with his Eminence last night, he said he has fond memories of Credo. Tom remarked that he had been a good friend of ours while he was Archbishop of St. Louis and he said "I still am". Tom let him know that he can contact us any time through our website. He's looking more relaxed and happy than he was last time he was in St. Louis. Patty Christy, Eleanor Fineran, and Tom Hoover were also there, so the Credo Board was well-represented.
